What “ChatGPT makes slides” actually covers
Ask around and everyone will tell you ChatGPT can make presentations. What OpenAI actually ships is more specific. The official route is ChatGPT for PowerPoint, a sidebar add-in installed from the Microsoft Marketplace that creates and edits slides inside PowerPoint itself, preserving editable slide structure and working within your existing template where it can. It is a real product with real strengths — you keep your file, your template and your editor.
Outside the add-in, the picture thins out. ChatGPT's Work desktop flow can create documents and spreadsheets, but OpenAI states PowerPoint is not included in that flow at launch; native creation is documented for Google Slides via the Workspace connector. Generating a .pptx file directly from a chat on chatgpt.com is not a documented feature at all — when it happens, it happens through code execution, with no published commitments about the result.
Skiaw is the inverse shape: nothing but decks. The prompt goes in, research and layout happen inside the engine, and what comes out is a .pptx in which every element is a real PowerPoint shape placed by measured geometry. Which shape is right depends on where your deck lives: if it lives in PowerPoint and you want help while you build, the add-in is genuinely good; if you want the deck to arrive finished, that is the job Skiaw was built for.
